You do not want a keel for swift water use. While they do help one over come poor paddling form, and force the boat to head straight on flat water, in the swirl and fast water it makes it very difficult to control. Look for a kayak with a smoother transitions on a shallower v or even flat hull. The Jackson Coosa is great river boat and will paddle upstream in swift water better than "faster" and straighter tracking boats that are of similar length. I would look for something that has a hull like the Coosa or even a 16 ft plus river tripping canoe with solo seat in the middle (use a kayak paddle). Also learn to use a high angle paddle stroke vs low angle for better control in the river.
I had the Ride 115 for a year. I fish a lot and it served me well. It had the elevated seat and I am 5' 10" and pushing 300 pounds. Stable as a rock. You will soon learn what you can do in a kayak and what you can't do as far as keeping yourself out of the drink. I recently sold the Ride and purchased a Big Game Prowler II. The Ride is a great boat and in a way I miss it. Wilderness makes a good boat but due to arthritis I need a seat that is more comfortable. You will find...IMHO.....that yaks with the lawn chair type seat are much more comfortable. I also own a Jackson Coosa for the rivers. It is a stable boat and very comfortable but nowhere near as stable as a Ride 115. FeelFree has the new Lure boat that is 36 inches wide with what looks like a great seat in it. I have stood in my Ride just to say I did it but as big as I am it is just not practical to say I would fish like that. Wilderness is coming out in a few months with a lawn chair type seat that will retro fit into the older Ride series. It looks very promising.

Ha. I know the feeling! Congrats on the Ride! I ordered my 135 last fall and I've got a couple weeks left before I can finally get my hands on it! I'm hoping the temps warm up in early March, but I'm gonna be out on the water regardless. I may even take it down to Florida on vacation with me for some inshore fishing.

As far as tracking goes on the ride's that's one of the cooler, less talked about features. You're on a swift water creek and need maneuverability? Slide the seat back, your nose is basically out of water and you can 90 in a paddle stroke. Need to paddle 5 miles? Slide the seat forward and your front digs in keeping the boat straight so you don't have to fight it as much. Trimming the boat is one thing that the ride does that I don't think anyone else can claim.

STILL have not made it out to the freight company. We had a server crash that had me in data recovery mode yesterday and we have a big muckitty-muck function tonight until 9pm.
Is it possible to die from anticipation????
