    Default Kayak outrigger idea

Does anyone thing of using the 5 gallon water bottle as a outrigger? It is light and unbreable. Well I drop it many time with it full with water ...... Just a thought.

The 5 gal bottle may be to big. I have made a set of outriggers using two 2 liter bottles, works very well. I have a set that I use now that I used crab pot Buoys Spongex Green Commercial Grade Crab Pot Trap Buoys Four Pack 5" x 11" Bullet | eBay. They work the best but both sets are great to use. I use adjustable flag pole holders to mount the outriggers to the boat. I now leave the mounts set where they work the best and use quick connects to remove/install the outriggers.

Here is a pic that shows the quick connects along with the back of the kayak.

How do the outriggers work on the Pelican? I have same one and am thinking about doing that but wondering if you did anything to reinforce them or if they are stable just going straight into the plastic.

Stump Hunter, thanks for the info. I had thought about the 2 liter bottle but how is the buoyancy of that rig? I am 240lbs and wish to stand and fish......

I would buy a bigger boat!! They work great to be able to move around some or to reach around to get things off the back of the boat but I wouldn't try to stand although they may be alright.

The boat is made with thick plastic but I did use a backing plate, didn't want to take any chances. I added a hatch in front of the seat and was able to reach to install the backing plates.

Stand and fish you say? Bigger boat! Ride 115 or 135.
