Default Alternative to paddles?

I know there are a couple of boats out there that utilize pedal type propulsion but the catch is you have to use their boat. Not really interested in T-motors for the weight of everything and the battery. What I'm thinking is some kind of attachment that is controlled similar to a rudder but is flexible like a flipper that could be installed on any boat. Anyone seen anything like it? I've done some research and there is a neat idea with a fish tail type of propulsion but I can't find enough info to base anything off of. basically like this. But human powered of course. And speed isn't an issue, for that I have a paddle. This would be for slow hands free fishing or duck stalking and potentially steering if done right. Thoughts ideas?

seems to me that a porpoise tail would be better for this application. and keep all the kinetic energy in the water allowing for more "tail to water" contact thus being more efficient. pitch can be adjusted for planing.

more water contact allows a slower motor speed, lengthening battery life.

up and down for propulsion mounted on a rudder like arm for steering.

the lateral (side to side) movement in the video has the kayak/boat moving left and right in opposition to the tail fin. this seems to be a big energy waster.

    Cheers

I don't see how to easily do that though. If you had it spring loaded in the up or down position and then only pushed forward to generate propulsion that might work but seems complicated.

Ever use swim fins with both moving up and down at the same time like a mermaid?... same principle applies.

I'll work up a 3D animation to illustrate tonight after I get back from dinner.

Found it, Harry Bryan's Thistle - YouTube < I need to figure out that on a kayak.
