That has to be an awesome challenge, but...........going that fast, how you gonna have time to snap photos? Good Luck and take plenty of the energy bars.

I do not have some fancy smancy speed demon kayak. I'm using my Mad River Synergy 14' with a Lawrance Elite 5 dsi gps for navigation at night.
Talk about sore arse.
Will have a nice pictorial report upon completion.

I was doing some figuring. If you stop for 6 hours a night and a couple of stretch breaks a day you're going to have to keep a 5mph pace. Your arse will not be the only thing sore. Good luck and keeps us posted. Have your wife post how your doing daily since your going to be busy paddling.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
Stopping for six hours any time during the race will be a luxury, stopping that much every night, I won't make it. It is as much an endurance against sleep depravation as it is physical. I'll be no fresher than day one, so when I launch Tuesday I will not sleep until well into mid day Wednesday under a shade tree on the bank for a few hours at best. Then a two-three hour nap here and there. Jeff City might be where I get some bed time if I've worked my clock strategy right and stayed in the boat going down stream.

Lots of luck. Hope you make it. Where is this race taking place?

One of the competitors died on Monday night, in his sleep. Don't know who it was. Someone who dropped out of the race at the end of Day 1:

Yep, that was a somber moment at the ceremony. I ended up finishing 12:59PM Friday for a time of 77:59. Finishing at all was my goal, then when I seen my possibility of getting under 80 I poured on the fuel to be there. Next year I want a sub 70 hour finish.

I think you did an awesome job doing what you did and congratulate every kayaker that finished the race. Now you have knowledge of what it takes and
will you try it again next year? Bet pushin' cranks from your kayak would help prepare you for next year too.
