I usually bring a small plano box with soft plastics, jig spinners, jigheads,a few hardbaits, some of my handmade inline spinners, some hooks,a few floats, some hand tied jigs.basicaly got all bases roughly covered.even got a few ice jigs in there.i also bring my wet and dry fly boxes because i bring the fly rod as well as 2 spinning rods most the time.rare occasions i will bring the baitcaster and throw 1/4oz jig heads on a spinner, with small size#4 hook using some of the plastics in the box.I put all these simply in a square pale, with snacks and a drink, bungeed to the back of my kayak and even put the rods in stickin out the back at an angle.I consider myself a "universal fisherman" and will be happy to catch what ever will bite on the things i throw, and i normaly throw panfish sized baits.I am comfortable with not bringing a whole lot of tackle because its annoying to have to lug everything back inside when i get home. usually 5' and 4'6 UL spinning rods and a fly rod are the rods i bring with me.they have 5 pound power pro braid, even the fly rod has a leader of it.

    This seat.

Gone Fishin Kayak Seat - austinkayak.com - Product Details

Swap out whatever boxes you want to take, it's awesome. Has eliminated any need for a Milk crate or anything of the such and it keeps everything handy, plus the seat isn't half bad either. I have my crappie boxes and my bass boxes and I can mix and match depending on where I'm going.

I guess, I am at the other end of the spectrum on it. I generally carry a fanny pack with several packages of hooks in it along with 3 or 4 plano boxes that hold all of my jigs, swivels, splitshots ect. I use one of the front pockets to hold bobbers in and the other to hold a pair of fingernail clippers and Berkley crappie nibbles. I mainly fish for crappie, perch, trout (when in season) and catfish. I also have a fillet knife on the belt along with a leatherman multi-tool. It is very minimum but it allows me to not have to carry a lot of gear when I am having to hike to a location. Hope this idea helps, Bobo p.s. I will try and get a picture taken tonight or tomorrow of the pack I use.

Caution: I got caught with a fillet knife in my kayak in Arkansas and won't ever happen again. I was told it was against the law. Different states have
different laws and ignorance of the law is no excuse, or..........so I'm told.

Was it the length of the fillet knife or the knife it's self that the officer didn't like? I have had mine on that pack for years and they have never said anything about. I am not doubting you at all, just confused. How else are you suppose to cut bait?

Did they say anything about the reason for not having the knife? Just curious.

Ask if I had filleted any while out fishing. Nope. Said something about folks filleting, packaging and handing off to others to put in the cooler. Illegal if they
want to press charges. Promised not to do it again. No citation. Use pocket knive to cut perch for cut bait if catfishing. I just crappie fish and let the
others go back for the jugliners and perch jerkers. No problem. Arkansas friend told me he knew several fellers that got cited for having fillet knife in their
boats. Guess it differes in different states.

I could almost understand if you were fishing spoonbill but crappie? That is just nuts. Thanks for the heads up though. I will know now if I ever go fishing in the next state over. Thanks, Bobo

I am sure that the GW was most likely telling you the truth about some filleting and handing off but lets face it not everyone out on the water is looking to break the law. I know they sometimes have a hard job with the way some people can act. But lets face it some of these guys could learn to use a little judgement instead of trying to write a ticket for every little thing or look for an excuse to write one.
