One model to try due to bad back is the Wilderness Systems Ride or Tarpon, have good seats, good yaks for fishing but there are others out there that may work better for you. Check around the local shops for "demo days" where you can do a test paddle, you'll know in a few minutes if one has any potential for you or not. GL
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

I have a compression fracture and a hernioation, and found that a peddle yak didn't bother me at all. Paddling g a yak for hours would get to me especially if I'm fighting wind and/or current. The down side is weight and more stuff to snag lines on your deck.

There are many makes out there. The cheaper ones are make from cheaper plastic that will breakdown faster in UV light. They get brittle and crack easily. They aren't as flexable in the cold, a concern for those of us up north.

Seats are upgradable on most yaks. You can get them with high backs, low backs, lumbar support,... It's up to you what you are looking for.

I have an older surf to summit GTX seat that is amazing. I put it on my wife's SOT so she's comfy. I have a Hobie seat on my Revo with an air bladder in it. I made a removable backrest for those loooong days on the water.
If vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what's baby oil made from?

Thanks for all the great advice. I can see the search for the right one taking a long time but I think the right one would bring added enjoyment to an already enjoyable habit...uh...I mean hobby!

were in alabama are you. im in orth bama i have a 10 foot nucanoe classic and a 12 foot nucanoe frontier. id be glad to let you try one of mine out to see if it fits what your looking for..if you want the widest and most stable kayak on the market , and something thats designed for standing instead of something that you can stand in if your 150 lbs and great balance..then nucanoe is what your looking for..im 6 1 and 240 lbs and can stand and fish with no problems at all

Dicks sporting goods here in ny is having a sale on their yaks and canoes. If you have one by you, check them out to see what yours carries.

I have a future beach trophy 126. I have no back trouble and feel ok while fishing but after 5 or 6 hours I am sore and stiff when I crawl out, for a day or two. I always tell myself that next time I will get out and stretch every couple of hours but I never do.
