I'm just a bit over-stimulated from the good time I've havin' down here. It's like I've eaten too much candy

The leg tunnels are just to hard on my knees, they don't give me any options to reposition my legs short of bending the knees some. That's why I want the open floor the Ultimate offers. I've gotta redo the top of the trailer anyway, and a little extra storage would free-up the work bench I'd put across the front of the trailer, it's so loaded with stuff I can't even use it. Even putting a couple totes of cooler weather clothing up top would help, and I'm sure there's other light-weight, seldom used stuff I could stow u there too. In addition, when I built it, I went cheap (3/8" plywood) because I wasn't even sure I wouldn't just tear it off and seal the 8 (or 10?) small holes I drilled to mount it. I believe Austin is only offering Free Holiday Shipping, so it won't apply when I'm at a position to order, and unless I just happen to be at the right place at the right time, I won't be making a purchase until I'm back in Indiana (which I even have trouble calling "home" now after spending time done here). All that being said, the 16' would be just slightly longer than my trailer.

DF- I'd be curious to know the difference in leg-room when seated in the front of a tandem, and may call before buying. If it wasn't substantial, and there was more than ample room to stretch out in the 14.5, I'd be in. For sure I want to set forward, both for fishing and counterbalance of a decent sized Battery (not meaning over-sized, just not undersized because it's in a Kayak). I'd also like to be able to use a medium cooler for a livewell, and carry a smaller one for lunch/drinks, as well as my larger (5 gal) aerated minnow bucket. I mean I know Kayak fishing means somewhat limited gear, and I'm not looking to take a ton of stuff, it's just be nice to actually take a tackle bag as opposed to putting what I think I'll need in a Plano box. Mostly it's just I'm getting too uncomfortable in that small a Kayak. It was fine when I started, but as I spent more time in it, it seemed to become more cramped. I just need a bit more wiggle-room. Also, I've stayed-out for several hours at a time (and would more often if I were more comfortable), which just seems to compound things (and make it necessary to carry a bit more). To top all that off, I've learned (well, learning) a whole new way of fishing down here, and if I want to take advantage of that, I just need a little more.

You guys make perfect sense....well 'cept I can't get jimp to get it through his head I can't take my legs laying in them two troughs The Ultimate is a definite, you won't change my mind on that, done deal there . And you guys are "probably" (don't want no head swelling) right about the 14.5 instead of the 16'er.

Hey RRR! I'm just gonna stick with my "omen" theory for now and hold-off on the purchase. I've already realized I'm a bit too over-zealous to buy at the moment, and need to just be concentrating on where I am, what I'm doing, and all the great folks I've met down here. Heck, I can rack my brain when I got nothing better to do, not when the Crappie are bitin'. One of the big points was that extra 1.5' (though may not be such a bonus, depending where it is added exactly) and that additional 150 pound capacity, however if less would do the same, I'm all for that too. Just time for me to step back and take a few deep breaths (lol, until Spring). Thanks RRR

Nice Kayak Tex! I think I'd seen a glow-in-the-dark model of a Jackson. Bet that'd be a heck of a sight on the water at night. The general sot design just doesn't work for me, it's like setting down in one large molded seat. Knee kept me awake last night, I can imagine how it's gonna feel after I get off the water later today.

I figure chopping the TM won't be a problem since all I'll be doing is extending the wiring to remount the switch in an accessible location. You can still get the #30 MKs for $100, so the whole deal should be able to be done for well-under $500 (by a long shot).

I'm seriously considering the stick-steer too, just to be different. Ever see a Kayak with stick steer? I ain't....and I even Googled
ever look at a Hobie? Heavy boat, but comes with stick steer as well as peddle rather than paddle

if'n you would have stated your body (knees) could not handle the current style you have anymore then I probably would not have recommended the Ride or Tarpon, but the Commander is an open floor plan as you call it, just another option. Still think you should try the WS seat out tho, you might like it, but probably not since I suggested/recommended it. Be stubborn then. GL luck in your search for the right yak for you.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

NeonMoon, The ultimate is fine craft and the floor is open, however it is arched. I don't think your legs will enjoy the arched floor. The Jackson Cuda 12 and 14 along with the Big Tuna all have elevated stadium type seats but also has a perfectly flat floor, allowing more variety in leg positions with better comfort,IMO.

Wouldn't be able to pedal Charlie, I can paddle (physically) better then pedal. Besides, I'm gettin' lazy in my old age. On the post I made about adding the TM, there's no doubt I can do it easily, and inexpensively. That will be an upcoming project next year for everyone to look forward

bfish, I won't be even attempting to stand in it (which you probably already know), so I don't know how that would affect me as far as foot/leg position. How much of an arch are you talking? To be honest I didn't really notice it on the 12'er when I want to try and buy the 14.5 the other day.

Nothing too extreme. It was enough that my heels would slide back into the same position. More of annoyance than anything. It may not even bother you, but it did me.

Thanks! Probably wouldn't be hard to solve by cutting a large cutting board to lay in as a flat floor, yes? no?

I would think it would be difficult. The hull and the deck layers are pretty close together in the arch area (if I remember correctly, 1/2").
