Sure did. Good thing he ran straight for open water when he came out from the dock that I hooked him under. If he would have decided to head back to the dock it would have been all over. Gave me two great leaps, both times showing me my little jig in the corner of his mouth. But the back reel technique that my grandfather showed me nearly 40 years ago was just too much for the smallie to handle. Kept a constant pressure on him and finally wore him out. The walleye on the other hand was much like reeling in a soggy sock full of sand. Not a whole lot of fight to him, though I did think I was going to lose him when he went around my stringer. Got lucky on that one.
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
