For my battery setup, I purchased a 12V 5ah battery from my local battery store for around $15. This fit perfectly inside the small dry box available at Wal-Mart. For wiring, I purchased a 2-wire quick connect pigtail for a trolling motor from my local marina for around $4. I wired the inline fuse inside the dry box and drilled two holes just slightly larger than the pigtail wiring (14 ga wire, I believe). Sealed those up with Marine Goop once it was wired up completely. This battery box is then "adhered" to the inside of the hull with 3M industrial hook and loop.

You know, the research I've seen shows both unprotected batteries and protected batteries. I can understand the reason for enclosing
a battery, but.......I wonder what the percentage is of those that do, versus those that don't. NeonMoon, is yours enclosed or tied down
without waterproofing? I am required to remove my battery to charge it, unless I use an extension cord to get electricity to my battery
charger. The idea of a box to enclose the battery is a non-issue because I want to do this the safest way. Here again, feedback needed.

Honestly, if the battery gets wet where it's mounted, I have bigger issues than worrying about a 15 dollar battery. I looked at this box as the simplest way for me to mount the battery where I wanted it for quick removal during transport and charging. As far charging it, the box comes out of the boat (velcro mount mentioned above) and the battery comes out of the box easily. I may also end up buying a second set of pigtails to use one to plug into the charger so that I don't even have to remove it from the box.

O.K., now I understand where your coming from. So, it's more about convenience and personal likes more than a safety issue.
I had wondered about the safety issue before I thought about the convenience issue. Now I got the bigger picture. I had not
even thought that far ahead.............still learning. LOL This is exactly why I started this thread, cause I had never traveled this
path and was ignorant of what to expect. Again, I appreciate your enlightening me. I don't know anyone in my circle of friends
that has the expertise to address what I'm doing, so your educating me.

critter, I'd say you was in a hurry to get to the water and fish. So far, how you likin' that cuda?
I made the trip to buy a new one, but at the last minute I got the WS Ride 135 cause I already
knew what they was all about. Old habits are hard to break, even for a new cuda. LOL

I too have a Jackson Cuda and am wondering why you choose not to mount the transducer inside the hull. I'm looking forward to getting one soon so asking questions. Did you mount the unit on the Cuda's center hatch? I'm thinking that would be the spot.

I haven't drilled any holes yet, and hesitant to do so...........but, I'm thinking I want my unit mounted to my WS Ride center hatch. I've even
thought about routing the transducer cable under the STS adhesive backed rubber to the back of the unit to eliminate drilling that 1" hole.
Still watching this thread so I can get a number of suggestions/ideas too. I'm appreciating this input, keep it coming.
The only issue I'm having with the thought of not drilling the hole is... what am I going to do with all the excess transducer cable if I route
it under the STS..... (I think I many need Tylenol)

    RRR:
I've gotten the impression that alot of yakers have used watertight boxes to hold/protect the battery and electrical connections from water intrusion. If you catch a wake and water gets on the connections, you could get a short/sparks, etc., and there's not that much room in a yak to get away from the danger. Some have used cheap tupperware from walmart all the way up to $50 or more water tight/proof containers for their batteries. Granted, some of 'em are out in the gulf of mexico, off shore , etc, and I'm assuming you are in calmer waters, but you could still catch a wake from a boat or wave runner, and short out everything. Cheap tuppeware container will keep most if not all of the water off the connections and avoid some bad trips to the water.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
