might look at the rollers used on boat trailers, might find some wide enough or shaped close to your yak to use instead. Another possiblity might is to build some carpeted bunks and use those bunk slicks, but don't know if those would work well on the plastic hull. Are you going to have a method of securing the yak inside the "coffin" to prevent the yak from bouncing around and getting damaged in transit????
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

jimp, sorry I'd missed your question at the end of your post. When I laid-out the box, it's cut the same radius as the front half of the kayak so though it won't be a "tight" fit, it shouldn't move much.

Got a seat update: After last weeks fishing trip and spending several hours on the water, even though I'd beached and stretched a few times, the following day was a pretty tough one. I have some extenuating physical issues, and couldn't walk the following day. It was nearly impossible for me to exit the kayak at the end of the day. It was bad enough that I knew I couldn't (and honestly didn't want to) use it again without making some changes.

So I followed RetiredRR's lead, and got a $10 plastic patio chair today, took the sawzall to it after some careful eyeballing, and sliced 'er up to fit. Setting in it was a world of difference from the seat I'd made, and even though most people would have found it comfortable, I wasn't one of them. Now I set at a level right at the top of the kayak. I'm curious to see how much difference it will make by setting about 4" higher, but I could already tell it will make entry/exit much easier on the knees and back, and the additional width of the seat and back make a big difference as well.

After an initial run, and confirming it will do what I need it to, I may add a couple rod holders to it, since it (chair) has arms I just as well take advantage of them. I can also add a few small holes in each arm, and hook things such as my cricket cage onto them, and free-up some floor space.

I promise you, your going to have a hard time beating your new chair for comfort and easing the issue you
have with your knees. It is the best idea I've had for myself in a long time. And, your right about drilling holes in
the armrest for accessories. Mine are really handy now and I enjoy my time on the water like so much more than
I used too. Let me know after a few trips if you still like it.

You will have a higher center of gravity, dont lean over too far, but thats a great idea

I hope you're right! After the last trip, I honestly wasn't looking forward to the next. Who the heck thought someone wouldn't look forward to fishing? Had I known I'd have tried this from the start and saved myself some cash on the seat I'd made. Oh well....can't take it with 'ya. I hope the difference I'd felt (from just setting in it a few minutes) is how it will be over a longer time period. Granted I'll still have to get out and give the bones a break now and then, but adding the Stadium Seat Cushion should only help.

I'll take a few minutes getting used to it when I get it back in the water. I'm still adjusting to the whole Kayak "experience" anyway, so I'm a bit over-cautious anyway. The oddest part is just setting a bit higher, even though it's only a few inches.

The guys in the shop where I'm parked were getting a pretty good laugh while I was putting the new seat in yesterday Rofl I told them it was made specifically for my Kayak since it was color-matched.

Thanks, NeonMoon, for this awesome and inspirational thread! Where in Indiana are you? I'm in the Muncie area...looking forward to hitting up Westwood, Summit, maybe Prairie Creek on this kayak. And the White River when we decide to get some rain haha.

I just bought myself the Angler 144, but have not had the opportunity to get it on the water yet. This is my first kayak. I have, however, started rigging it, though not to the extent you have.

I'm in Anderson, and matter of fact just got back from Westwood this morning. All the stuff I've done was cheap, the Hummingbird was the most expensive accessory ($100, but I had it from another boat). You should like the Angler 144, I really like mine. I'm sure there's better ones out there, but the Angler floats just as well as a $1500 model and will catch fish just the same.

    -----------------------

Well, got a chance to try-out the new Capt'n Chair today. I'll tell you what, wished I'd have done this from the start, because the worst feeling I had today was in the rump, just from setting 7 hours and getting up twice, but didn't cause me any additional knee/back pain like I had last week. It's actually a little easier for me to enter/exit the Kayak since I'm setting a bit higher in the new seat and the arms help getting up.

I can tell I've raised the COG, and while reaching around the rod holder for my cooler, it did list, not to the point of nearly tipping, just enough to startle me and get my attention, so I'll have to keep that in mind. I won't fish any big water with it anyway. The Stadium Seat helped, and I will look for just a bit more padding, but I don't want to be up any higher. Matter of fact I may see if I can trim another inch of the legs to get it to set down a bit lower. All in all, I believe this will solve the pain issues...and that's a good thing!

Anyone wanting a comfortable seat, spend $10 1st on a plastic Patio Chair, if it isn't for you, you're only out $10, but I could have saved about $30 on the seat I'd made by trying a plastic one 1st.

I did oversleep this AM, didn't hit the water 'til 5:30, but like to be there an hour earlier.....guess next time I'll set the alarm. Had about 12 keepers ('gills) in the basket, but turned them loose since me and dad are fishing the pond tomorrow and will get a better quality of fish from there.

Thumbs UpGood for you. Glad to hear a positive report and hope this inspires others to give it a try. It is certainly
cheap enough and would you believe I was passing a Dollar General store today and stopped because I saw
a white plastic chair similar to yours, went in and bought a $10.00 chair for $5.00? I've sold my Heritage Angler 12
and Wilderness System Ride to my cousin I'd introduced to kayaking, and purchased a 2012 Wilderness System Ride 135
and am riggin' it now with the white chair. Enjoy doing this myself and can't wait to get back on the water this
weekend. Wanted the Jackson Kayak Cuda, but the stability of the WS Ride 135 won the thumbs up.
Now, what do I do with that expensive seat that was on my kayak? It will collect dust if it stays here.

Got started on riggin' my Ride. Going to see what the red, white & blue theme looks like,
with the rod holders painted blue.
