I've only had my FB144 a couple years. I tend to be a minimalist. This thread is challenging that. I notice hardly anyone uses the elastic straps on the side for anything. What is their design purpose? I will strap my paddle there, sometimes. What about those hard, black plastic thigamajigs? But are there other purposes? I did mount 1 rod holder forward of the cup holder. It also holds the shotgun pretty securely, though upside down for combo or hunting float trips. I've placed a tripod inside the front hatch with video camera for some nice movies.

This is the thread that got me here on the forums as I have the same kayak. I'm more of a minimalist too 2bstreamin, but this is definitely giving me ideas on how to improve. I got my yak late in the year so I didn't get too much time to mess around with it but I already can't wait to get back in the water.

Cut-out some thick plank foam for my batteries to wedge down into just to hold them in place. I won't be in any water faster than a slow creek/river, so it's not like they'll get bounced-around.

Made some holders out of 1" PVC for my needle nose and a knife I'll keep handy in the event I'd ever need to cut any rigging. I'll just drill the tabs and probably rivet them in place if not zip-tie them some where.

Moved a couple rigging blocks around to hold the cord to keep the paddle and stake-out pole secure, plus I had some spare 550 Paracord laying around, so I made leashes for the 4 rod holders, and paddle. Guess I forgot pics of those things, so I'll get them next time.

Getting closer, anchors is about it. I did downsize my panfish tacklebag into one large Plano Box, so that bought me some room and shaved a little weight in the rear well.

    Then it's slime time
I have a question about your batteries. What were they made for, motorcycle, childs electic car, etc.? What is there capacity and where did you get them?

BoarBuster - NeonMoon has not been on for some time now.

The batteries he used are 7Ah 12volt batteries. (Humminbird GCBK 12v Gel Cell) You can get them from Austin Canoe and Kayak (ACK) for around $45 each.

I use one I built a battery box for my fish finder and LED lights in my kayaks. Check it out on the Home page. (DIY contest winner)

Any questions fell free to send me a PM.
Wishing you Blue Skies and Tight Lines

That battery mount is slick. Going to have to steal that idea!
