    Default stick steer trolling motor

new project for this spring. wanting a 24 or 36 volt at transom . i guess im thinking of a stick steer control so it can be operated from the front. not sure on hull type yet may go with a 14 to 15 foot flat bottom. pondering a gheenoe super 16 or a Lt 25. the terrova type motors would be ideal if they were transom mount. lasy years project was the tracker tx 17 with a 24 volt on front and rear but i had the rear locked into a straight position and just turned it on and off with a bigfoot switch.my fishing buddy bought this one so im gonna build me another all electric boat. just would like to stay up front and turn the rear troller.

I saw this on SC Craigs list. Might want to look at how this boat is rigged, Scout is a really nice boat made here in SC. This is the first hybrid one I've seen. They use a joystick to steer the rear mounted electric motors.

You can put a Terrova with AP/IP on the bow of a 15'4 Gheenoe, seen one, worked great, and probably put one on a LT or super with a bit of work. Would be a good all electric boat for sure. The Super would need a couple big TM's, the LT, not as much power.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Go look at the cable drum on your garage door. One of those mounted onto a shaft with a stick attached to outside. Need 2 pulleys with good short springs attached to pulley attaching point.put a pulley on either side of motor as far away as you can for swing clearance. Make a attachment similar to outboard steering hook up. Wrap appropriate size nylon covered cable around drum, take ends back through pulleys and attach to motor. Center motor, pull each cable end snug against spring and lock down with small cable clamps. Makes a push pull steering system just like the boats us old timers grew up with. Don't know if you still can but used to be able to buy all the components in a kit. That system could also be engineered to work with a foot pedal for heel-toe steering.
To make this make sense, you would use just one long length of cable. Attach one end to motor, route it back to pulley, wrap it around pulley and leave one empty grove on each end of pulley, route this end back through the other pulley and attach to motor. Cable will go on over the top and come off the bottom. That way it allows for wrapping and unwrapping at the same time. That's the reason for the springs to keep tension on pulleys.

My son put a stick steer on his bow fishing boat and used a long steering cable.
