Nice color on those slabs!
I managed to squeeze in a couple hours fishing at the last minute last evening. It was ccccold, at only 43 degrees. A bit breezy. But hey, that didn't stop the fish from biting. I managed to land 18 nice crappies and 7 good gills. Males and females. Males in 1- 2 1/2 feet of water, females in 3 - 8 feet of water.
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D

I've noticed all you seem to catch is black crappie is that normal up north or just where you fish? Looks like a nice catch. Some black spawning males in the bunch. I think our spawn is about over here with the high water.

Nice job Frank
I have only caught 2 white crappie in my life, so I would have to say that it is a case of not many whites up here. I fish a lot of different lakes and just don't see the whites. Our spawn is just getting going up here. In fact most of the females are not on the beds yet. A lot of them are still holding in slightly deeper water right next to the bedding areas. Of course that is here in central/northern Michigan, I am not sure, but would be willing to bet that in southern Michigan they are in the full swing of the spawn. Our water temps here are still in the low to mid 50s.

Holy moly that's a good catch. Crappies can be so beautiful.
