I have a Old Towne 1550 Predator canoe and was contemplating putting a small four stroke outboard on it, possibly a 2 or 4hp, it has a flat stern and is rated up to a 5hp. Have any of you tried this and if so how big of a motor did you use and did you like it? This is a second boat that I use on small ponds and on the river in places that I can't get our big boat. I already have a stern mounted 40lb thrust Minn Kota but found some places in the river that it did not have enough power to continue upstream. Thanks.

I fabricated a bracket that attaches using the four (4) threaded inserts for the rudder accessory that are molded into the rear of the Ocean Kayak
I used the pod assembly from a 360 Bow Mount (AS 360 TM) and ran the 8' cables inside the kayak up to the 998

Having access to the parts bin made it easier for me, but with a little ingenuity, anyone could do it

What size battery, and what is the run time? I have a 788, and it runs a 9A down in just under 4 hours.

I usually use two 9A hr AGM batteries. One for the 998 and one for the 360. I really need to try them wired in parallel since the 360 should be pulling much less current than the 998. I haven't really monitored how long the last. My fishing trips are usually half-days, so I would say they last at least 4-5 hours (Like most portable electronics, the LCD brightness setting will have a significant effect)

So it's been a while since I posted my first kayak the Field and Stream Eagle Talon, that boat is long gone and I now have a Wilderness Ride 115. Love it. Standing, sight fishing, casting, everything is better with a big stable kayak. Rigging is never done, it's a constant evolution of what I think will work a little better, in my opinion that's half the fun. The boat on the left is my Ride, the one closest to the camera is a tarpon 100.

Your never done. Lol. I'm always looking to change something around. The next greatest improvement is always just around the corner.

Finally got a trailer for my 8 foot pond boat - no more lifting in and out of the back of my truck for me. Took her out today to Walnut Creek Lake in Papillion Nebraska. Temps were in the 50s ... yeah for July - fishing wasn't as good as I would of liked it to be but hey it was still fishing and that's better then working LOL
