The question is will that be the high light of my day? Only time will tell just what kind of guide Doug will be from the back of the boat. :D
If I keep eating there will I start getting a mid section profile on me like the ol Chatster's? :D

Its Melvern.
I would like to strangle NOAA now. Their forecast this afternoon showed winds out of the south up to 10 mph. Right after posting I checked NOAA again and its now showing 16 gusting to 23 out of the south. I got beat up yesterday on Hillsdale now it looks like I'll be getting beat up tomorrow and hugging the south shore at Melvern and in all likely hood breakfast will be my high light for the day. Oh well.

The wind wasn't bad at all today. In fact it was kind of warm when trying to fish out of the wind. NOAA's reports aren't that accurate.
As expected the breakfast at Green Acres was great and wasn't the only high light of the day.
Doug and I fished from 7 am till 6:30 pm catching 134 total so the thump fix was decently fed today since that's it till next Tuesday at the earliest. Iffen we ever learn how to crappie fish maybe we can get out there for a couple three hours and get our limit caught like the good fishers are able to do.
We worked the deeper water again today fishing 12 to 15 ft down from 12 fow to 18 fow. Heard reports of others catching some nice males in 4 fow. Some of the females I dressed still had eggs and the few males I caught didn't have bloodied tails.
Doug had a nice fifteen incher.
My best for the day was a couple of thirteen inchers. Not sure these were the thirteen inchers but just a couple of nicers ones. I don't do a bunch of searching when dressing crappie at 8:30 pm after a long day on the water. Also managed a legal hammer handle saugeye today.

Nice job :D Sounds like a great day
LIFE’S TOO SHORT TO FISH WITHOUT BEER
Wow!!! I know where I will be on Tuesday. Thanks for the report Lee. If you are heading there and starting at Green Acres let me know.
Nice job Lee!How many of those fish where shorts and did you use jigs or minners?Next week sounds like it should be good at Melvern.
We had to boat 134 total to get the 40 legals. Which is OK since the thump from a small crappie can be more intense than where a larger crappie might just suck a jig in. We used tandem jigs sometimes tipped with crappie nibbles.
For some reason we haven't caught any small mouth bass while crappie fishing this year something we have caught in the past at Melvern.
Something I think I learned on this trip is that the faint ticks I sometimes detect messing with my bait is not crappie. I had been working a 10 to 15 yard stretch where I felt something with my baits and would set the hook with a big rod sweep and nothing. It must have happened three or four times until I set the hook and bowed the rod and just held it bowed kind of thinking it was snagged since it didn't move or do a head shake. On releasing the tension and re-applying the tension I realized I had a real nice fish hooked and it then made a move to deeper water and I turned it back towards the boat and got it to the surface just enough to see that it was a big walleye and it came unbuttoned. On second thoughts perhaps I horsed it too hard since I was using braid.:o
This is very similar to something I've noticed with the crappie where I detect a thump and set the hook and feel a faint resistance but don't move or change the fishes depth in the water column and then realize nothing is there. On my previous outing at Melvern and other times and places I will immediately drop my baits back into the water trying to put it exactly where it was and immediately on dropping it would get a good thump and catch a fish. I boated two nice Melvern slabs in a row like this on my previous outing. Doug experienced this Thursday one time but I don't recall if it was a legal that he caught. Now if this occurs and you feel the head shake and know you have moved the fish some and then it comes unhooked I haven't found or noticed that I can get an immediate bite by re-dropping the baits.
I'm thinking the difference is I will feel a faint resistance on the hook set with a crappie messing with my bait where with the eyes I don't feel any resistance when setting the hook.
Maybe a couple of very experienced crappie and eye fisher posters on here like say a imajigger2 a walleyecrazy or anyone else might just chime in here and let you all know ol LBM is just full of chit and demented in my reasoning. :D Anyhow it would be interesting to hear anyone else's views on my observations.
As for next week I'm sure looking for Melvern to supply my next thump fix.
