Default First Skunk of the year

Okay it was also my first trip since New Year's Eve. Water was like glass this morning and for the first hour I was the only boat on the lake. Water temp was 42 to 43 depending on which point or cove you were in. I tried every trick I knew. Deep, shallow, tried different colors, threw everything at them. I fished from Sunrise to 1130 and never caught a fish. It was a beautiful day to be out. Came back and rode my bike 12 miles now watching the Jayhawks. Going to take the kids down to the pond after the game.

I went out as well this morning, it was beautiful. Didn’t put the first fish in the boat until 1000ish. Had to downsize to 1/32 jig and black/purple itty bitty slab slayer was the key

Similar to huntnfishnguy, I go small when the water is this cold. I use titanium heads to get more weight when compared to lead. I tie feathered jigs. I can fish straight down and not move the jig. Just simply holding the rod provides all movement needed. The other advantage, I feel feathered jigs have in cold water, they seem to absorb and release Slab Sauce better than plastics. Once the water temp gets into the 50's I switch to plastic

I'm waiting for the next sunny day to try behind the damn back in the outflow stream. Maybe Friday. The water warms up quicker than the lake and has been good to me in the past
