Watching to water temperature. When it gets to mid-70's there is usually a significant uptick on crappie activity on the NE Kansas lakes I fish
Do you feel the fall bite will start early this year?
For me it's more November.
That's my take also ,temps drop down lake turns over bite picks up.
Thanks for your response not many options out there.
My question is do they get really lethargic during the turnover, seems if I have had very little success while it was happening?

From what I have been told when the lake turns over the oxygen rich water from the surface gets dense and sinks to the bottom. The thermal cline goes away and the water has oxygen through out the whole lake. I've heard during the turn over heard the fish can be any where in the lake at any level and that is why it is harder to locate them during that time. Just passing on what I have been told but haven't FACT CHECKED it
dkv thanked you for this post
There have been years were I had a decent day, in late October, and caught keeping size crappie from the bank
