Crappie are on the bank! Yesterday outdoor temps hit mid-80's. I got to the lake about 10am when outdoor temp was still in lower 70's. Left boat at home. Fishing from shore, off the jetty, I caught a crappie first cast. Several times my wife and I had fish on at the same time. The crappie started in deeper water. As the day heated up they moved into the banks. I caught fish in 2 ft of water. In all we caught 25-30 fish in two hours. Even though Douglas has no size limit, on crappie, I only keep fish 10 inches or larger. Ended up cleaning 10 fish. Several had developing eggs. Look to be a couple weeks before they start laying. After all the flooding of last year. What fun! All fish caught on jigs.
Tube jig with orange body and chartreuse tail was the color combo of choice. I saw several people in boats, fishing deeper water for crappie, not catching anything. They would just sit out in the lake and watch us catch fish
Way to school those boaters whatroad !
