In case some of you guys haven't heard yet, the fish cleaning station at Perry State Park is closed for the time being. Over the winter the park had their lagoons inspected and KDHE red-flagged them for having a giant pile of fish bones in their lagoon (bottom picture). Fish bones don't breakdown in a lagoon system so that is a big no-no. And that is just the ones that made it out of the pipe. The other picture, with the black stuff, is of a conglomerate of fish bones that were clogging one of their pipes.

This was all happening after installing special grinder pumps that were supposed to be able to grind these things down further than the cleaning station. They do have plans to move the fish cleaning station but they are awaiting approval from the Corps of Engineers on that. In the mean time, you'll just have to clean fish at home or on your tailgate, like the good ol' days.
