Caught A Fish at Clinton Today
Yep - one crappie (a nice one though)! It was real foggy, my jon boat doesn't have gps at the drivers seat, so I stayed fairly close to the ramps. I searched and marked several brush piles. I heard several boats launching, but couldn't see many of them due to fog which lifted about the time I was leaving at 1330. Boring post, but fishing beat sitting at home!

Fog story. Left the dock early in the fog. Years ago. Just wanted to go straight across. Lake is about 3/4 mile wide and 11 miles long. Got really bad. Couldn't see the front of the boat. Idling for fear of hitting the opposite bank. Then heard another boat, got really worried, then heard another. Just kept idling and hoping, buddy and I scared by then. This went on for about 1.5 hrs and we heard more boats, even people sounding out. The fog lifted fairly suddenly. We were in the middle of the lake in a circle with 5 other boats. We all kind of gather for a minute and told each other how stupid we were and lucky we were. I have never launched in fog like that again. Be careful out there, and thanks for your report.

I have had three experiences launching in dense fog and everytime I ended up going in a big circle and arriving where I started......I would've sworn I was going in a straight line! Driving a boat in dense fog is downright freaky if you ask me!

Same kind of horror stories about getting lost, boats running at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle while I am idling, before the gps came along man, you were on your own. Helpless feeling!

Yes gps is a life saver in dense fog. that does not mean the other guy can see you gps does not mark boats that are going slow or stopped. Be careful out there please

Fog is really crazy at night. Feels like driving in a ping pong ball. Even tough to drive a straight line with gps.

I attended a crash investigation course several years ago. They said a common reason why people drive fast in heavy fog is psychological. The brain supposedly wants more input and tricks the driver into going faster in an attempt to get more input. Strange stuff.

Best idea if you cannot see do not go out. No fish is worth the risk.
