    Default Milford 8/14

    Hey guys,

I was there on the 14th, fishing for (what else) crappie - but didn't have a bit of luck. Wondering if the blue-green algae causes problems or if I'm just not used to that lake... I'll blame it on the algae because it's easier to get skunked by algae than my own skill... Hahahaha

Seriously though - any thoughts on that algae? Does it seem to affect the fishing? I know it smells horrible, and did I hear correctly that it can cause really bad health problems...?? If so, does it also affect the safety of eating the fish? Just wondering what you guys might know about it...

Thanks in advance for any insight!
    Eric

I grew up fishing milford still fish Milford mainly. I have never noticed the algae to affect the fishing, but I don't crappie fish Milford much outside the spawn as i never have much luck with them outside the spawn there. Doesn't affect catfish fishing; big shad eat the stuff. KDHE says it doesn't affect the fish but that you are only supposed to consume the fillet portion of the fish. As far as health issues as long as you don't swim in it it shouldnt affect you. Don't let pets drink the water as it can kill them.
