Default Wilson County State Fishing Lake Report

Well I made the run this morning and played with the wind. I pulled up to the ramp at 7am, off the water around 3pm, sunburned and wind beaten but it was well worth it. Started out scouting around a bit. I decided naturally to start off long lining some road runners. That proved productive but I could tell there were several year classes hanging around, so why not break out the box of Arkie crankbaits I recently added to my bag. Ended up keeping 19 crappie and 6 white bass. Caught several aspiring bluegills on cranks too! Photo is from about the halfway point and hey, what do you know, I got the ice in the cooler first this time! Got home and cleaned everything up and slipped a dozen fillets to an elderly neighbor who said something about "if you ever have too many". Pay it forward I guess. I have a pretty good lay of it now. I hadn't been on it in several years, and then I was flyfishing for bass, so the banks were all I would hit then. Saturday I found some structure and cover and found fish there, willing to bite. It's a nice little lake. I met an older gentleman upon pulling the boat off, who shared his spot in the shade for me to clean fish and enjoy some much needed company. I believe I remember his name as Porter... He has a Skeeter boat, and for a man in his late 70's to early 80's, I was impressed to find out that he's a hardcore bass fisherman. I know the dedication required to fish for bass exclusively, and to find out that's what he does is kind of inspiring I guess.

This one's about a two hour drive for me. I'm in Wichita, so everything's a decent drive if I want to get into some fish. I saw a Green Nitro at Geary County Lake a few weeks ago- that wouldn't have been you, would it?
