5/31/15 Coffey County Lake Report

Hit CCL today. Most boats I have ever seen on it outside of a tournament. Lake is still high, if by yourself you will get wet launching. Lake is still in a funk it seems as well.

Walleye- Main reason we went. They are not on the flats. Ended up catching a 19" fish trying to get back on a school of white bass. It was the only walleye we caught. Usually hammering them this time of year on the flats.

Channel Cats- Usually catch a pile of them drifting for walleye. Caught one.

Drum- Caught several large bronze drum drifting today.

Whites/Wipers- Seem scattered. Picked up a wiper casting woody cover for smallmouths. Did get on some surfacing fish in 2-3 fow. Also picked up a few in the open water trolling.

Crappie- Targeted what I believed to be crappie on a break one cove south of the ramp. Couldn't get any to bite. Ended up catching two while targeting other fish. Usually CCL crappie 12" and 12.5" respectively. Paper thin as well. Pic isn't the greatest


Smallies- Could've caught them all day. Got bored pitching jigs at them and I switched to a rubber frog, then a crankbait. Lots of boats catching them. Watched a boat catch probably 20 of them fishing the same area. ALso saw the gal in the back catch a big one, jump up and down, then get her pic taken. We just happened to be drifting nearby when it happened. We found smallies busting minnows up shallow.

Overall far from great IMO, but I have had worse days out there.

If anybody wants to come teach me some crappie tactics one day let me know. I have the boat just need a little knowledge.
