I haven't been out there for two weeks but last time we where out there we found a ton of small schools of just hatch shad around the road bed. Not sure if that helps but we noticed a good number on the main lake a few weeks ago.
Has anyone noticed the lack of shad besides me?
No gulls anywhere on the lake.
Is it possible for a lake to loose its shad population by predator fish like wipers?

I haven't seen any big schools either.
There were plenty of huge clouds of shad on the lake after ice out this winter, and in early may they also seemed to be abundant. Maybe they they spawned a bit later and are still shallow enough that they arent showin up on electronics. From what I remember seeing from late winter and fishing the crappie spawn, I'm not worried aboutbthe shad. I' certainley not a bioligist, just my two cents worth.
I usually see shad flipping the surface in marina cove shallow water this time of year, but none this year. I did see some frozen in the ice this past winter but not any more than previous years so I don't think we had a major shad kill this year.
I'm going out Friday evening to try my luck at fishing under a headlight in the timber out from the beach on the north side at Clinton. If there are any shad around they should come to the light with the crappie under them. I hope the water is not too stained that might keep the shad from schooling under the light.
prolly goin out the tubes with all that outflow??
Shad usually don't stay by the dam in the summer. In the winter they will and if they let water out, some will get sucked through. They're suppose to be in the coves in the summer
Seen lots of shad today at Perry, all sizes, should good for the growth of the two years crappie I been catching.
