I don't think they have spawned. We fished Fri/Sat last week for smallmouth and never caught one crappie, and most of the places we caught smallies were banks we usually fish for crappie as well. We were throwing jerkbaits and typically that catches quite a few crappie when they're shallow. We never found any water above 49 degrees, but the warmer weather I'm sure has got it going in the right direction.

Having never really targeted a crappie spawn in a larger body of water, what kind of structure should we be looking for? Rip rap, gravel, mud? Timber in shallow water perhaps? The pond I want to fish may be a no go. They have a crazy horse in there that is trying to kick people and the owner won't be able to put it up in time to fit tomorrow.

Gravel is mostly the best, the pockets the are sheltered from the wind usually produce the best. I know of one little pocket no larger than decent garage that I consistently catch spawners on year after year, it is very protected from the wind
North side of lake warms sooner, dirty water is warmer than clear. Just MHOP

I know where there are several gravel banks I found last fall duck hunting. Those would be good to try then.
