    Default Local bite + Texoma

Caught 43 crappie from 6 to 8 pm after work from the bank in a big private sandpit W Wichita area 3-13 on Bobby Gs... Only about 6-10 of those were over 10 inches though.

But what I really just wanted was to post a shot of the 10+ striper I caught Saturday at Texoma! Nobody would believe me if I just said it without some hard physical evidence ya know- haha

Who did you fish with at Texoma? My favorite guide retired a couple of years ago.

    Thanks itz!

Hawk = When researching the Texoma guides, the #1 recommended guide as the best out there was JD Lyle, from the board I read anyway. There were several others recommended, but I think ratings were based on numbers, getting clients on huge schools of smaller fish. I was interested in size, and wanted to catch a big fish, so I went with Brian from Stripers, Inc. I'd rather catch one big one than 10 smaller ones personally! and I saw this statement from one of his reports, so I was totally sold after reading this:

I will be fishing lures only from now through the end of March, targeting big fish when I can find them. 8–10 pound fish have become common on most trips and it is quite possible that we may catch something bigger.

Brian put us on some BIG fish! In fact, there was a kid there with his mom from Dallas, and he had never been striper fishing. Well, the first fish he caught was a 13 lb behemoth, and I about fell over when I saw that fish come up! Next biggest was the 10+ I posted above, and I also caught an 8, a 7 and several 3-6 lb fish. Everyone caught very nice 4-5 lb fish... with a few 2-3 lb smaller ones as well. The guide hooked another nice 7 to 8 lb fish, and let the kid's mom fight and land that one since she didn't have a 'big' one yet... so he really did target bigger ones, and stayed away from smaller fish concentrations. I was skeptical about getting a ten lber, so to actually get that jacked me pretty good and the trip turned out better than I thought!

I fished with Nial Maytubby out of Kingston for about 15 years, he retired a couple of years ago when the Coast Guard got so heavy handed with the guides up there.

I've tried a couple of other guides since then, and wasn't impressed. I may have to give Brian a try soon.
