glad you caught some on the thin ice
Yeah 2.5 inches is a little to risky for me but I have gone out on 3 inches before...by myself...not smart I know...won't do that again. I'm glad you caught a good mess and didn't get wet Thanks for the report.
FAITH, FAMILY, FRIENDS & FISHING...... hopefully in that order but honestly, not always!
Good job! I can't wait to get back to Kansas to try out a few ponds, I've been tearing up the crappie and yellow perch here in Colorado!!

I am sure we will have a great year for Ice fishing since I am stuck in Afghanistan. The last year we had safe Ice I was stuck in Iraq. I see a trend here. I hope you guys have a great season and stay safe. I like 4 inches before I go out on the ice but I grew up in Michigan and spent my youth Ice fishing every winter. I would recomend carrying two screw drivers to help pull your self out in the event to fall through. I have only had one close call and it was a spring in the middle of the lake with 20 inches of Ice in Febuary so you really just never know for sure. I had to help pull a snowmobile out of six feet of water as a kid when my uncle swam down to tie it off and it was a significant emotional event. Hypothermia is a killer. Be safe and live to fish another day.
