    Default Cold Cold Morning! 12-NOV-2012

Loaded up the boat and met newbie Tim at BJ's 66 at 6:30! We were on the water just as the sun coming up and after getting Tim lined up with some jigs and tubes we started our hunt! Drop the trolling motor and turn on the Lowrance but no picture? The lens had frosted over after leaving my garage, wiped it off and proceeded to explain to Tim the proper technique and ended up catching a 10" dink! Tim was having problems because of his heavier rod/line combo so I let him use my second rod. 4 dinks later I finally get a 13" keeper, take him off my jig and the livewell lid is frozen shut, after a little pulling here and prying there I was able to get it open! A couple more dinks and then I felt a big THUMP and had a beast of crappie on, got him almost in the boat before he came unbuttoned and disappeared to the depths! Tim caught a couple of dinks and I continued catching dinks with a nice keeper every so often until about 10:00 and then everything slowed down except the wind which by now was gusting pretty good!! After watching the seagulls busting the shad off and on all morning I finally told Tim to get his wiper pole ready because we were going to run over to where the seagulls are diving, he got his pole ready as we motored across the lake and had made his first cast before the boat had even stopped moving! About half way in his pole bent over double and he said "Oh no, I'm snagged!!" I had to laugh as his "snag" was now pulling the boat around!! He couldn't believe that he had a fish on but when I got the dip net out he pulled up the big fish of the day, about a 4lb wiper!! lol Went crappie hunting a bit more but the wind was really gusting so we called it a day!! Cleaned 8 nice 12-13 inch crappie and Tim took his wiper home to show his wife!!

Thanks for the report. Those wipers are sure fun and can be addictive.
Wish you were talking about me, I've just been sitting here at work here wishing I was fishing.
