Hillsdale 8/27/2012
Picked up three dozen minnows and fished from daylight till the minnows were used up a 11:00 am catching 40 fish total with only 9 legals. Fished a 100 yd stretch with four larger trees and various smaller stickups in about 20 fow.
Today for me it was only the larger trees that gave up crappie. The pattern started out by slowly lowering the minnow from around 5 ft to 10ft then holding it at that depth and letting them look at it for a bit before they would pop it. After the wind picked up I started working the minnow at 15 ft and switched from a 1/16 to a 1/4oz jig head and did catch some fish with the larger jig but ended up going back to the 1/16th and spending the time waiting for it to get to my working dept. After the wind came up I ended up going back to the tree I had first started on catching several shorts and my last legal and finally used up all the minnows there.
Only used those white BP Big Bite jigs with white heads. I sure like the way those jigs hook the crappie but at times I feel like they are just a minnow delivery system for feeding crappie for the way those minnows so easily get off of the hook for me.
All in all a satisfying day for me considering I paid for 3 doz minnows catching 40 total even with all the minnows I put on the hook and left there for the crappie to consume with no risk at all for them getting hooked in the process.
The only picture for today is my note pad showing the legals caught with their length the time caught and the total count when they were caught. Or again I may have really just stayed at home and wrote this out on my note pad and made up my post for today since I haven't made many posts lately. But guess I would have to say I was motivated to get back out to Hillsdale after reading the Duckman's post as he and his crew of crappie ravagers seems to always successfully assault those Hillsdale crappie.
