White bass are always a blast to catch when you can find them schooled up and surfacing! Sounds like you had a lot of fun!
Trolling rooster tails across the east side of the island in 3 fow produced 35 wb in 45miutes. I think the south wind had shad pushed up against the shallow water point because there where no bites where the point depth dropped to5 feet or deeper. One crazy catfish bit on the rooster tail.

Don't Move a Mussel!! Clean, Drain and Dry EVERY TIME, ON EVERY BODY OF WATER!!
Darn. I worked the north side of the island, the point by the marina, the hump in front of the marina, and the point off the dam last night and was on a terrible bite there. Should have gone shallow. Took 0 big fish last night from deep water and hard breaks at 3.2 to 3.9mph.
White bass can bail out an otherwise lackluster fishing trip for sure. Though I haven't tried it I always think of an old Hank Parker fishing show where he hooked one on a rattle trap then just set the rod down with his foot on it. Picked up another rod rigged with another rattle trap and commenced to just crush em. The first hooked white bass kept the others active for quite a while.
