    Default What a surprise?!

I was fishing Lake Shawnee in Topeka a couple weeks ago and got quite the surprise. We were out there for smallmouth and trout (ended up doing pretty well on walleye as well), when I caught this guy,

I know there's a few in Kansas but it's probably been over a decade since I last caught one here. Would be really cool if those tasty little fish were in better numbers somewhere around here.

They've been in there for as long as I can remember, but rarely catch more than one or two a trip!

That's definitely a pretty specimen! I've never eaten one but surely they couldn't be any better than a crappie.

Last yellow perch I caught was back in the 70s at Lake Franklin, Minnesota. Wish we had these instead of white perch!

I found they'd stocked them back in the 80's. I haven't ever fished Shawnee except for trout season until this year. Was a cool little fish to catch for sure! State record is only barely over a pound, wouldn't take much to break that.

Caught my first one ever last Friday, while trying to figure out the mystery of catching blacks at Shawnee. Need help!
