Does one ride in it or eat it or drink it? It isn't in urbandictionary.com.

It's another name for a spotted sunfish. Never caught one that I know of.

Caught perch and bluegill when I was a young boy for set lines on the Deleware. The old guys loafing at the has station always wanted to see what was in my bucket when I came back to town on my bicycle. One of those guys always said stumpknockers. The rest would say either pumpkin seeds or bluegill.

I read once that they were referring to Redear Sunfish AKA shell crackers, because they "knocked" against stumps to dislodge snails to eat. Some fisherpersons down south smack lily pads with paddles to make the snails fall off to get them feeding.
