    Default Arrgg!

Going thru tackle boxes,,,, crank bait box 'water logged'. All rusted up and stained. Got them cleaned but, need to replace hooks (and rings?). Mostly all 'Bandits'. Need to know what is a good treble hook for these. I mainly use them for crappie. Will replace boxes with 'water proof' type. ALL OF THEM!!!! <*)}}}><

    Chatt,

That is a bummer, I normally change all my crank baits hooks to eagleclaw 3X short shank ss lazor sharp hooks. I like the 3X just in case you get a big wiper on but they would be a overkill for crappie! You can buy them in bulk on ebay. Watch your fingers as they are SHARP. Clinton open yet?

I have lost a large box of marabou crappie jigs and a lot of crank baits because of them getting water inside them. Very frustrating. Now I just make sure all boxes are standing on end so if they do happen to get water in them it will at least drain out. Let me know what you find for waterproof boxes. I have not had much luck finding any.

As for hooks, you cant beat the Xcaliber hooks like those that come on Bomber lures. Those are some of the sharpest hooks I have ever seen.

Fished for half an hour with bucktails last summer getting one aggressive strike after another from wipers and missing every one of them. Finally took the time to look down at the jig to see that the hook was missing and the shank was rusted where it broke off. Lesson learned......

You might check Sunflower, 804 Mass. for water proof sea bags. They used to carry a full line of these. Several sizes.Great for storing anything in a boat that you don't want wet.
