I spent the evening trolling and the bite was on. I caught quite a few fish trolling Wiggle Warts and Jointed Divers. Fire tiger and yellow lures were what I was using. I did use a crawdad color on the other pole but it did not catch anything. I caught most in about 12-18 FOW. The Wiggle wart was constantly bumping bottom, the jointed diver was about 12ft. They both were catching fish evenly between them. What I like best was the jointed divers I got for $1 each down in Branson at Basspro bargain bin.....I bought about 20 of them in different colors....glad I did and even happier to have got them on the cheap. I had several trolls where there was two fish on at the same time....things got busy quick. Caught Wipers, whites, and even a couple of Crappie. No Walleye.....
I am sold on this trolling....I was a little concerned that my main motor would troll too fast but I guess its going to work out fine. As my main motor is a 4 stroke it did not burn much fuel at all but I can see where I will be on the look out for a 4 stroke 6 or 9hp Kicker if a deal comes along so I am not racking up lots of hours on my main Merc.
I did order me 4 trolling Okuma CV20 line counter combos last night with 8.6ft MH rods. Tonight I just used my spinning reels and rods after I loaded 15lb braid on them. What helped me more than anything was having the drag set to where when a hook up happened the drag engaged and I could clearly hear it but it would not engage when bumping bottom. Made it much easier than constant watching them and the fishfinder at the same time. When the Okumas get here I will load them with lead core to be able to get deep out around the islands on the lake.
