If I could shoot squirrel here I would have squirrel stew for dinner twice a month and I would tie hundreds of jigs with the tails. I love squirrel. To me it is one of the easiest hairs to work with and is so diverse in it's uses that only feathers come in higher for versatility, IMO.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

I love to tie up squirrel tail jigs. In fact that was the first jig I ever tied!! I'd say my two favorite are squirrel and badger.

The top jig in the left column and the top jig in the right column are both badger.

The middle and bottom jig in the left column and natural colored squirrel tail.

The middle and bottom jig in the right column are red dyed squirrel tail.

I have squirrel tail in many colors... natural, red, chartreuse, yellow, black, orange, olive, pink, green, blue, brown... but my fav of all is just the natural squirrel tail.

Good eye, mate! The top jig in the left column and all jigs in the right are tied with a top-secret metallic thread that I have access to.

The bottom two jigs in the left column are tied using flat waxed nylon (the green one) and the orange one is made using ultra thread 140 denier....

I use fox sq. tail on a 1/32 oz. round head with orange, black, or lime green thread. Its killer on bream and catch several crappie on it also.
