jig molds

Guys and gals, I just recieved a new semi custom jig mold, made on a cnc machine. It is 1\16 oz. and kind of resembles an old pinkie head, however there are differences. The reason I'm tellin ya'll this, is because the man that does this, did an awsome job, for a very reasonable price. And I believe it was about 5 weeks or so, for him to get it to me. Do not think do-it molds, people, this thing is beatiful, and I almost hate to use it. I am just a beginner on the computer, so picture are out of the question, right now. His name is Shawn Collins, google up Shawn Collins Customs, in smithfield, va. I wanted a jig mold like this for 5 years, and one day I stumbled upon this guy, on yahoo or google, I can't remember. He already had a design in his catalogue, that was what I was looking for. I got it for 135.00 . I don't know what a truly custom design would cost, but he is great to talk to via email. folks, I poured some jigheads with the new mold, and they are beautiful. Your not going to believe this, but I got no flashing at all, on any of them. In other words, all I had to do was cut the sprue off, and smooth the cut mark up, and they were ready. Maybe I neglected to say, that the heads have an elongated oval shape, with a collar, to tie hair on. I just love crafting jigs, and catching something on them. No, It has not been cost effective, with all the fly tying materials, lead, hooks, thread, paint, etc. Not to mention, the dynaking vise, which was not really nessessary, but it's a good hobby, one that I love. These jigs are generally used under a bobber, or vertical trolling, spider rigging, and with a minnow hooked thru the lips. Good Fishin, Kip

ahhh shawn collins....maker of the infamous frog tongue sinkers.....some of the east coast (OBX) salties will know what i mean....i wanted that mold but its over $100 from him.......jig head molds might be more reasonable?

Thanks Ship! The reason I brought up the cnc made jig mold is, you can not always find what you want in the do-it lineup. And do-it molds are good molds, I own probably six of them. And they will suffice most of the time. But when It comes to small size jigs, either without a collar, or with a hair tying collar, in shapes other than a round head, you simply have no other choice, but to go to someone like shawn collins. As far as the price goes, 125.00-135.00 dollars for a cnc mold is cheap. Do-it charges 150.00 for their cnc molds. and they only offer a couple styles. This mold I bought, has me feeling like, I got more than I paid for. It's that good. It's also nearly impossible to find a machinist who can operate cnc mills, who is also experienced with making jig molds. hopeless jigmaker....kip

Yep I heard of them too Treed.
I've heard of the Shawn Collins, too. If I ever needed anything custom I would go to him...but that's just too much when I can get a $40 mold and be done with it.

Shawn's molds are talked about alot on tackleunderground a lure making site where I am a member and looking at some of the molds he's made for those guys is unbelievable.
