I make it the same as hook shank or less. I don't like really long tails. I've seen many guys with marks on vise to help keep consistent lengths.
I tie most of my jigs with hackle tips and synthetic materials like flashabu, Krystal flash, artificial hair, etc. And they are mostly 1/16 and 1/32 because those are the jig molds that I have. When tying in tails do you guys have a standard length you use or do you use the hook shank to measure, or just go by what looks right, etc? I was thinking about putting 2 lines on my tying table and using that to measure by, but what measurement should I use for those 2 jig sizes? I would like to keep them as consistent as possible.
Thanks
GF

Like with soft plastics I make sure the bend of the jig hook comes out less than half of the total body. Fish rarely nip at the tail avoiding getting hooked.
