I bought a dewalt heat gun for about $20 fifteen years ago and it comes in handy for other stuff too. I use a small pair of needle nose pliers and hold the eye when I dip. I hold the hook and count 3 or 4 on each side til I feel the heat in the hook, grab the eye with the pliers and dip and tap on the side of the jar. I Don’t have to clean the eyes afterwards that way. If you heat while holding it with the pliers you’ll coat the pliers too cuz they’d get hot. Candle and alcohol burner didn’t git it for me.

I have gotten so good dipping jig heads that I no longer need to use pliers. I can dip then by hand and they will come out with no paint in the eyes. The key is to dip the head quickly while making a circular turn. As long as the paint has been fluffed you will get a perfect jig painted jig head. I only use pliers when dipping 1/64 heads.

Mine was $3 at a yard sale. I didn’t want to buy momma new one for the kitchen so I figured I’d better get my own.

Well, I still have alot to learn as the eyes didnt turn out like I woulda liked. I started by holding the jighead with hemostats before heating and after paInting the head the hemostat "tore" loose from the jighead. Other than that I think they turned out pretty good. My heat gun hasnt arrived yet so I used a lighter. I also havent bought a toaster oven yet. Not too sure I need one since I am painting heads just for me and all I do is longline troll. Here's a couple pics. Dont mind hurting my feelings either...I'm pretty thick skinned. Tell me anything you think will make me better at this.

They look good to me other than the eyes needing a little care. I do like the stand with threaded rod. I need to make one of those.

Is there any such thing as dipping the eyes without them being stopped up with paint afterwards?!?
