Default I got the itch to go fish!

I hadn’t been out fishing ALL YEAR so I went out Friday night for my first trip of 2024.

30 keeper crappie (over 10”) and 24 throw-back crappie (under 10”). Air temperature was 32 degrees and the water temperature was just under 41 degrees. All caught vertical jigging in brush and trees using my hand-tied jigs (no live bait).

3/32 #4 litewire on top and 1/16” on bottom.

Cold water crappies are the best eating too! Thanks for the report.

We also have been on a strong Ohio crappie bite. Top three presentations have been an ice jig suspending under a bobber, a slip bobber rig with a tungsten ice jig tipped with a crappie nibbler, then a tiny jigging spoon. Once you find them the catching is very much red hot. We are strictly catch and release but that filet pile has my mouth watering!

Hadn't been able to fish all year, funny stuff. On New year's eve I informed my wife that I was done for the year. Next day I grab a couple of rods and say I'm going fishing for a couple hours. She said I thought you were finished for the year. I simply said that was last year and now it's 2024 with a whole year in front of us. Got to start it off in the right direction. From the looks of that pile of fillets you are definitely starting in the right direction.
