I was at NAS Norfolk, VA. We were then an AntiSubmarine Warfare Squadron. When the Marines couldn’t reach Scott Carpenter with their old HS1 Helos, we were assigned as a Astronaut pickup squadron.

We flew Ch-46 Sea Knight helos. Mainly vertical replenishment at sea. Great duty. Thank you for your service also. My hearing isn't great anymore but I can hear a helo miles away.
