Default what size SALMON jig for Washington?

    Hi!,
I was making some jigs for salmon fishing up in Washington, it is a birthday surprise for a long time friend. He says they always use pink colors, I was going to make up some marabou jigs but I don't know what size?

    thanks for all the help!

Just google salmon jigs and then look at the sizes that are being offered for sale.

I think most are at least 1/4 oz and larger. 3/8 and 1/2 should work well.

Check to see if there are hook size restrictions also.

1/4-3/8 on a #2 steelhead hook this is the year of the pinks so any thing Pink or Chartreuse should work !! That's what I tied up for people when I lived in the pacific Northwest..

Well if was fishing deep in heavy current I would start with 1 oz. move up or down in weight to get to where you are maintaining contact with the bottom but no more than you need. Detroit river I have fished 3 oz jigs and we caught fish, just get to where you are comfortable. I have made egg sinkers for tourney guys that were 14 and 16 ozs. They are all just tools for a specific job.
