Default Glow Paint and Low Light

Will Glow in the Dark Powder Paint be effective for early morning (30 minutes pre-dawn) fishing?

We get to the fishing spot right before daybreak. Was thinking we could use glowing jig heads at that time and also in low light conditions.

Yes it will even on it's own. But I use an old slr camera flash to charge them up real well.

UV reflective paints can be very bright in early light. Most neon colors are also UV reflective. If you wish to use glow paint, first do a coat of bright white, then layer on the glow paint over top of that.. This will make it reflect outwards much better. Most colors look better over top of white anyways. Green glows best.

Here is an example of the level of glow you can get from UV.

Next time out look closely at some of your baits. Many will have UV reflective qualities.

    Thanks for the replies…

I need to get some white powder coat. I have read in many places that a base coat of white works well for many colors.

Searching for the best glow in the dark Powder coat, it seems that Pro Tec is not highly regarded. The reviews claim the glow doesn’t last long. Looking for advice about the best glow powder coat to get.

Yesterday I built a liquid bed. My jigs have not turned out as well as expected - too much paint, I think.

I use white base coat often. It does change some colors drastically. It is all in how you want it to look.

The best glow in the dark powder paint-

The issue is that all glow in the dark paints do glow, but do so faintly or briefly. Hands down the best results will be with the lime green stuff. I have Protect blue, orange, green, and yellow and none are very pleasing in this regard. They offer a huge UV reflection though.

If you wish to get the very best glow in the dark effect, I suggest that you order the white paint I mentioned, and with it get a container of plain old clear. I use the clear with UV enhancers, but you want plain plain just clear. Then order your glow stuff elsewhere and mix.

Tech No products dot com has a fair deal on the best stuff there is. It is called V2 powder. About 15 years back I bought some on a lark, and mixed it with clear and it worked. I was painting surf fishing sinkers with it and in the dark could watch them soar out to sea.

Get the V2 in the number 1 version, with the bright lime green look to it. Mix it into the clear powder paint very very well. Then use it just like a regular powder paint, over top of a base coat of white and be ready to be impressed. Your stuff will glow brighter than any other powder and will glow for a long time. So you could charge it up, cast it a mile and watch it go the whole way after the cast. You can see your lure underwater when it is dark. Whatever. It will glow for a long time, too.

V2 powder can be purchased elsewhere as well. I have no experience with the other colors of V2, but I imagine they will not offer the same performance. They likely will be better than the Proteck stuff though. Most glow in the dark stuff glows good until you set the flashlight down, LOL

Micanopy, thanks for the detailed information. Unfortunately “Tech No products dot com” says that the Domain is up for sale. Have they gone out of business?

Just found this one. Is this the powder you mentioned?

Order their ULTRA GLOW. This will do nicely. You will need to guess at the ratio. I would pour half into a jar of clear, swirl, mix, stir. Then coat a head and examine to see if more would help. I think you will be very pleased.
