Decided to start writing down my ideas I get from looking at all of your ties and what I learn from youtube. I have tried recreating those ideas but inherently forgot materials or processes along the way. I'm hoping this will help!

The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass alongMCG1 thanked you for this post
Sounds great,,,I watch a lot of Videos on Utube as well as follow crappie jig tying pages on Facebook that teach jig tying,,,every bit helps
MCG1, I go to Walmart when they put out school supplies and buy several of the 100 page composition books, as well as the lined post-et pads that come in multiple packs. Save the first 4-5 pages as contents page, and write the info for the tie on the post-it sheet. when finished, put the post-it on a page and write it in on the contents page. I'll post picks from my phone for ya... I do it, 'cause I'll never remember 'em all...

Here ya' go...for ideas anyway...Hope it helps. This is book #2, Book one I stopped at 143 recipes. I also started a list of recipes on some three ring school pages as it's easier to flip through to make sure I'm not duplicating recipes. Thought I'd share how I'm doing it. Hope it helps ya'all out...Eric.

Great idea,,,,trick is finding exactly colors and materials being used,,,I watch Big Ken tie jigs over on Facebook,,, he goes from teaching how to use powdercoatings, to how many wraps used when tying the body, to, using single or multicolor tail feathers or hair type materials,,,I really like his ability to teach the art of jigbtying rather then making a regular low dollar jig,,,
Yes Sir, he does a great job and has been at it a long, long time. I also watch quite a few of the fly tyers to pick up some info on tying from them. There is a lot of info that crosses over to tying jigs too. Going back into the archived threads, or the beginnings of a section like the jig tying on here, I'll pick up some info or recipes too. That's how I found Sonny's Auto Jig recipe. Also just plain out asking the tier for it works also. I tie for myself and not professionally, so that helps sometimes too...

Thanks Eric. Your method is much more detailed than what I started with. What a great way to save ideas!
Depending on how good you are with Excel or Access you could create a digital version. That would allow you to search your files for specific values such as name, material, what it imitates, floating or not, hook size,…
I had one that I used to track patterns when I was teaching fly tying with Project Healing Waters, but I lost it when my computer crashed.
