Sorry if I’ve acted like I was ignoring y’all as of late,,,I’ve been very very naughty and decided to break in an old credit card and recently purchased several items to start making my own jigs, Some 25,000 to start ,,,lol. I decided to buy out a guy on another forum business,,,came with all the bells and whistles,,all I need now is some lead, a melting pot and watch several thousand videos on how to do all this pouring stuff,, Anyone out there want a student,,I’m all ears!,,,anyway,,time to go back to setting up a workbench on my back patio,,,momma done threw me out of the house,,,too much mess she said,,,I just hope it cools off a bit before I start messing with this hot lead,,,,any suggestion would highly be appreciated, I’m lost with all this pouring stuff,, I’ll be doing all pillhead type jigs from 1/16 to 1/2oz,,,I even have some with underspins,,,this ought to be a handful, But what else do I have to do? I’m like a kid in a candy store now…,watch out!

I'll play old guy and preach safety,safety and be cautious. I have poured lead since the late 70's. Lead can enter your body through the mouth, nose, eyes or burns. Never have food or candy or even a cigarette while you are handling lead. Keep your hands away from your face and wash up good when done with a pouring session. My lead count in my blood stream is so high they wont even accept blood donations from me. Don't file or grind on lead without personal protective equipment ever. Dust from that can contaminate everything in your work area. Never have any form of liquid around molten lead ever. If you spill water into hot lead it will flash and blow lead everywhere. Now that I have got that off my chest we can get to the fun part. You came to the right place with your question. Lot of folks here at CDC are very knowledgeable and keep checking back some folks are off line for a few weeks and then come back.

Safety is paramount around molten metal. One drop of water can produce some nasty results when it flashes to steam

You tie nice jigs. Hope you can find a market. I tied 2000 last winter and put hem on ebay at less than $1.00 and have sold very few. I'm back to just tying for myself.

Awesomeness! I bet you are a kid in a candy store. I just wish I had space for myself to tie and leave setup. Can’t wait to see some results and pics. Knowing the dangers of lead I’ll leave the jig pouring to another and just buy them. Have fun with it!

Safety glasses are a must have. In 2011 I was using some lead sinkers a friend had sent me and when I added a 12 oz sinker to the pot it exploded sending lead everywhere, even hit the ceiling. I had burns on my hands and lead was hanging from my eye lashes. It could have been much worse. I posted pictures on here I believe but don't know how to go back that far and find it. Before I sit down to pour the glasses go on.

I remember that Jim, I hadn’t been pouring long at the time.

I wish you the best in the business. I tried but lacked the time to dedicate to it so I tie for myself and a few friends, and time is still a factor.
