Default latest ties & some testing w/ grandson

In anticipation of some upcoming trips with my grandson, I decided to tie up a few jigs. I tied some old standards and a new “Grass Shrimp” pattern to test. Ashton or “Bubba” as we call him, had whet his appetite last summer on the trout streams. He and his older sister, Lexie had thoroughly enjoyed fighting the rainbows & brook trout on the Chattooga River. Bubba and both of his sisters have been introduced to the tying vise and trout flies, but now it was time for the fifth generation crappie fisherman to chase some spring slabs. With the fish being scattered in all depths, we decided our best bet was to longline troll. I gave Bubba his charge to run 4 rods out the back and I would man the 6 rods up front. Shortly after launching the boat, the graph lit up with bait and fish. Expectations were high, it was daybreak, and it appeared we were in the right place at the right time. After reeling in the first fish and seeing his smile, I realized I had made a new fishing partner and a memory that would last a lifetime. In my mind’s eye, I could see both of his late great-grandfathers and great-great grandfather smiling and bragging on “their boy”.

Bubba is a 5th generation crappie snatcher and this is his first year trolling...but, he is taking to it like a duck to water. Now, I've got to get him slinging cork & jig rigs next.

Looks good and appears highly satisfying.

The extra fluff on the gold one is a nice touch.
What is the thing sticking out near the hook point?
Looks like some kind of eyes??

You did well. Great ties, good fish, and a smiling Grand youngin. Not much better ways to spend time

I see that shrimp now, that's where the fluff comes in too. Nice look for where there's grass shrimp. Or anywhere for something a little different.

That would also look good on a streamer hook.
