Good looking ties
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass alongcatfishtoon thanked you for this post
I started the same way, kit from cabela's and a hand full of stuff. No you tube back then. Just books. It is a fascinating hobby and has given me many good memories on the water. One of the best feelings is when you catch fish on one of your creations. These folks here at CDC will be more than glad to help you along your way. Keep posting please

Question for the group. I am trying different things. How long is too long for the tail part?

I'm also just getting my feet wet tying jigs and using the Cabelas tying kit. Your jigs are looking great!

Most will say hair/feathers should be one and a half the length of the hook shank. If that makes any sense. Good job on the first jigs. Way better than my first ties.

Looks good. I tend to tie my tails a bit on the long side. I was told once that the long tail will make them fall slower. I to started on a Bass Pro kit. When I bought me a new vise I sent it to someone else who needed one here on CDC.

Let the fish tell you how long they should be. Hope you post lots of pictures as you go.
Maybe they will bite this one……GrumpyLoomis LIKED above postcatfishtoon thanked you for this post
I usually use the 1 1/2 rule. The size of shad change throughout the year so just match that and you’ll be good.
