I get my feathers and hackle from Barlows but I think Skip sells them too.
I've been tying flies since 91' and start tying jigs last year. I've been using marabou for the tail, but I've noticed guys using small feathers instead of marabou. It kind of looks like the end of hackle feathers. Where do you buy feathers like this? I watched a video yesterday and it looked like the guy was using small feathers as well. I don't mind marabou, but I hate cleaning up and I think a feather would be tougher than marabou pieces. Here are some random examples from the google machine.

Yup that’s hackle. Either saddle hackle or neck hackle, that’s mainly what I use on my jigs. It is durable and makes pretty jigs I think. It is still messy with cutting the “V’s” but probably not as messy as marabou. Lots of places to purchase hackle. Like Grumpy said above, Barlow’s, Skip (Skiptomylu), Woods and Water Outdoors are just a few. Patrick has a video on hackle.
I like that pink and purple combo a lot!

Thanks guys! I figured it was something like that. Time to start collecting new fathers for my quiver.

I don’t get much into all the v’s but when I do use hackle it’s mostly just a few tips of saddle hackle per jig. Sometimes I tie them flared out and other times lay them together and tie them. Crappie love it.

You can also use duck flank feathers - pull the fibers off and tie in
