I hear people refer to hanties as hair jigs all the time even when it’s a feather used. Don’t know if they are just uneducated about material types or just using hair jig as a blanket term for all hand ties. Some people call crappie perch too so what can you do.

I really thought it was either deer belly hair, or maybe something I’ve never used.

    Pictures always help!

Marabou tied the best way will not have any stems in it and marabou can look more than one way just based on the two of the types they sell.
Blood Quills will have a lot that look much like this jig and then there is the Extra Select Marabou which is more fluffy and the barbules are shorter as a general rule. Some Blood Quills will also have the more fluffy type Barbules too, but not like the Extra Select. I mostly use Blood Quills and usually do not allow the stem to be included in the tie.

Deer belly hair is pretty neat stuff. Being hollow when it is tied the really fluffs out.

If you want to use hair, I use synthetic hair called Fish Hair. Use both 50 and 70 denier. Fish seem to love it
