    Very nice blue.

Upon inspection of the details, I noticed that the chenille only extends about half way down the shank. I was doing that same thing yesterday because I was wanting a shorter more compact profile. After making a few it seemed that the hook would perform better without any material there to clog or choke the action of penetrating.

Are you also downsizing for the change in seasons, or was there some other reason for leaving half the shank free ?

I like the lemon/lime paint job. Very nicely done. You are having way too much fun in that cold garage. My wife came out yesterday morning and asked wasn’t I cold, to which I replied yes I am cold. LOL

I see also that the hook is showing a longer neck and wonder was there some reason for you to have done that after the Big Mod to lessen the neck length ?
Maybe they will bite this one……

Yes and no. Yes I’m looking for a smaller profile but no the chenille actually goes to the hook point just angle making it look like it isn’t. This is the smaller length Mustad size 4 hook I posted in your hook shank thread. It did require less chenille. Here it is next to a Mustad ultra point size 4. The ultra point is the hook with a shorter neck.

Micanopy I misread your post. Your comment about me going down half the hook shank, I thought you were referring to me stopping short of the point of the hook. Looking back at the pic I did go down half the hook shank. My goal with every tie is to stop at the point of the hook. I never go past that as like you stated I to believe it would interfere with hook sets. Might not in reality but in my head I think it would.

In my surf fishing seminars I always took the time to discuss choking hooks. I tried to get everyone to see the value of circle hooks, but if they get choked with bait the hook will go in and out of the fish’s mouth like a Yo Yo. J shaped hooks don’t really suffer in the same manner, however a hook that is choked with bait can prevent complete penetration and prevent the fish from getting down to the bend. Especially if the bait is stout and refuses to be compressed. Our materials do not compress well, so I suspect that your formula is a solid one.
Maybe they will bite this one……

Mod alert and I must say WHEW, it want easy! Gave me fits but finally got it with minimal flashing. Last week I modded one of the cavities to accept a size 4 mustard ultra point but was a little longer than your normal size 4 so modded another cavity to size 6 and it wasn’t as easy. Also added a barrel bearing roller swivel. Wasn’t wanting your standard size 12 you see on most of these smaller jigheads with swivels. Just too big for me. This swivel is so tiny it looks like it could be a size 16 if that’s a thing. I’m going to call this a success.
