I have had very little success catching Crappie on my home made flies. I use mostly store bought plastic jig bodies. Please take a look at this jig and tell me what I need to do to make it more acceptable to the fish. Thanks

Picture quality isn't the best. It's a hot pink head with white chenille body and Hot Pink Marabou, with a little Krystal Flash thrown. It's the materials that I found to work with. Tell me what's wrong with proportions, placement, etc. Anything that you see that I need to do to improve it so I can catch fish on it. Thanks

Jig looks perfect to me. How are you fishing it? Depth and speed are keys to success.

For clear water, solid white is good. If the water has a little color, I like solid chartreuse.

Maybe slightly shorter tail. White tail would work too. Really nice looking tie!

Jig looks good to me. The chenille could stop at hook point to keep gap open but overall looks good. How you are fishing it, location and depth are important. Are you sure crappie are there?

Overall, I think that jig looks really good. Only thing I would do is decrease the size of the tail. My hardest lesson to learn (and still learning) when tying jigs is LESS IS MORE!

Straight down over brush where the Fish Finder shows a good cluster of fish. 4 lb test, high vis line. The water is pretty clear. We have good success on Blue Ice, Monkey Milk, etc Bobby Garland and Slab Tail Ugly Green plastic jig bodies. Another good color for us in something with Chartreuse in it. 1/16 and 1/32 jig heads.

When you say “decrease the size of the tail, are you saying “make it shorter” or “use a smaller clump of marabou”?

You might try backing off the structure and casting over it. I think marabou is at it’s best with that presentation.
